5 Things You May Not Know About Reiki
5 Things You May Not Know About Reiki

Reiki, pronounced Ray-Kee, is a Japanese healing treatment that has been in practice for well over 2,000 years.
You may have heard of
Reiki on social media or in beauty or wellness magazines, but do you truly know what is involved in a Reiki treatment?
It’s a unique therapy that involves training and understanding of the mind, body and spirit but is
not religious in practice whatsoever. There are no ties to any specific religion.
Reiki is centered around energy and how it flows through our bodies.
Here at Perfect Balance Day Spa we offer Reiki therapy as a stand alone service or to complement any of our other services we provide.
We know that not everyone knows or really understands what is involved in Reiki, so we’ve come up with a few things to help you learn more about this long-practiced and popular treatment!
Purpose Of Reiki
Reiki in Japanese is a combination of 2 words - Rei, meaning universal and Ki, meaning life energy. Our life energy flows through our bodies through various channels called Chakras, Meridians and Nadis.
When our bodies are faced with physical or emotional trauma these pathways become blocked and filled with negative energy.
The goal and purpose of Reiki is to unblock these channels and allow positive energy to flow freely again.
Not A Massage
Many associate Reiki with a massage technique but in reality, Reiki invokes little touch if any touch at all!
A Reiki practitioner performs the therapy by placing their hands over the body and feeling for energy within and around different channels. They will move up and down the body through the chakras and other pathways stopping in places that need more focus. They may touch areas where you are feeling physical pain (head, back, stomach, etc) or scars to produce even more powerful energy flow to help heal those areas.
During the therapy you may even fall asleep because of the deep sense of relaxation you feel while Reiki is being performed.
Emotional Healing
Another major purpose of Reiki is emotional healing. When your energy is flowing freely and your channels are cleared and unblocked, it can have a profound effect on your emotional well-being.
Reiki has been tied to aiding with
- Stress relief
- Reduction in depression and anxiety
- Assistance with sleep issues
- Stress management
- Removal of toxins
- Restoration of balance (chi) within the body
Physical Healing
It has also been known that Reiki can help to relieve pain and ease any physical symptoms you may be having.
Reiki is a popular therapy for those who have cancer, chronic pain, Crohn’s disease, and neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, etc).
Those with physical pain and painful diseases use this treatment in tandem with traditional western medicine to provide relief and healing.
Complementary Treatment
Reiki can be used as a stand alone treatment but can also be used as a complement to many health and wellness services. As stated above, medical patients use Reiki along with their other treatments to help them find balance and peace in their bodies.
You can have a Reiki treatment before or after a massage for ultimate relaxation or before a facial or any other aesthetic or wellness treatment.
Since it is non-invasive and deeply relaxing it can be the perfect addition to any spa day.
